Behind the Songs: ECLIPSE: Playing By Ear

This new batch of songs that make up Eclipse were written more in the spirit of collaboration as a band than were the songs that made up our debut album. We’re proud of that and proud of this batch of songs. And we hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we like to play them.

Purchase ECLIPSE or purchase Playing By Ear.
Also available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc.

You say it's time to move on
I'd like nothing more
There's no right and there's no wrong
No way to even the score

What's past must be left in the past
No, I don't have a time machine
There's only one thing I ask
Will these stains ever come clean?

Move along. Nothing to see here.
Just steer clear.
Move along. It's just me.
Playing my life by ear.
Playing my life by ear!

Some nights you haunt me
Some nights I sleep just the same
Some nights I wake in a sweat
And you're the only one to blame

Move along. Nothing to see here.
Just steer clear.
Move along. It's just me.
Playing my life by ear.
Playing my life by ear!

I may never forget
I need only to forgive
Too much, too many regrets
And now I just want live!

Move along. Nothing to see here.
Just steer clear.
Move along. It's just me.
Playing my life by ear.
Playing my life by ear!

Notes:
Here’s a song that has a little hiccup in the verses. The music came out of a jam we did at practice. The lyrics, which are about just doing your best and asking for others to not judge, were already written. They reflected my thoughts and feelings of being on my own and raising my daughter alone after Lori passed away. I just had to nip and tuck them a little to fit the meter of the music. This is one of our favorite newer ones to play live and Scotty has remarked that it’s one of his favorites of the new batch. I think the lyrics resonate with people as well.
